Royal Copenhagen
Rundskuedag Vase 1926
This vase features Rosenborg Castle, built between 1606 and 1634 as a royal summer residence by King Christian IV (whose crowned monogram C4 is found on the back of the vase). The King designed the Castle himself in Dutch Renaissance style and lived here until he died in 1648. The Castle was at that time outside the ramparts of Copenhagen, but the city has long since grown up around it. In 1838 Rosenborg Castle was opened as a museum to the public and the royal crown jewels are kept in the castle cellars.
