Bing & Grøndahl CM33
Sorø Academy 1909
Sorø Academy is the oldest school in Denmark, dating back to 1140 when Archbishop Absalon established the Cistercian monastery of Sorø. Many members of the Danish royalty have attended Sorø Academy.
The Phoenix arising from the flames makes reference to a fire that devasted the Academy in 1750. On the back of the plate is an inscription saying that it was issued in a limited edition of 550 copies, making it the only B&G commemorative plate where the edition size is known.
