Memory Plates for

Queen Louise, Christian IX and Frederik VIII

Three related plates, all the same size and by the same artist, with similar designs, commemorating the deaths of Queen Louise in 1898, her husband King Christian IX in 1906, and their eldest son King Frederik VIII in 1912.

CM11:  This plate features  a central view of Fredensborg Palace; a crowned monogram formed of the back to back letters LR (Louise Regina); the inscription "Virtue and Fidelity"; and the dates of her reign, from her coronation in 1863 until her death in 1898.  If her husband Christian IX was the "Grandfather of Europe", then Queen Louise must have been the "Grandmother of Europe".  

CM 22: This plate features a view of Amalienborg Palace; a crowned monogram formed of the back to back letters C9R (Christian IX Rex); the inscription "MED GUD FOR ÆRE OG RET" (With God for Honor and Right); and the dates of his reign, from his coronation in 1863 until his death in 1906.  Known as the "Grandfather of Europe", his grandchildren included the King Christian X of Denmark, King Haakon VII of Norway, King George V of England, King Constantine I of Greece, and Czar Nicholas II of Russia.

CM 40: This plate features a view of the Royal Yacht Dannebrog (with flag at half-mast); a crowned monogram formed of the back to back letter F and the number 8 (Frederik VIII); and the dates of his reign, from his coronation in 1906 until his death in 1912.
