Bing & Grøndahl
CM3
Women's Exhibition, Copenhagen 1895
A small plate (5") of
large significance. It is the first true commemorative plate issued by
B&G, and was designed by Effie Hegermann-Lindencrone, who went on to become
one of B&G's most brilliant artists. The plate features a portrait of
Margrethe I, Queen of Denmark from 1387 to 1412, Denmark's only ruling female
monarch until Queen Margrethe II came to the throne in 1972. The border
bears the inscription "Kvindernes Udstilling" (Women's Exhibition), the date 1895 in
Roman numerals, and the company trademark: B&G.
